Our Story

From the Rānui Accord to Whiti Mai Rānui

The Rānui Accord was established in 2012 when local organisations came together and signed a shared Charter. The Charter set out a commitment to work together, build strong relationships, share knowledge, and improve the health, wellbeing and social outcomes of the Rānui community.

Over time, the collective's work evolved beyond coordinating services. By strengthening relationships across organisations, listening to community voices, and working alongside mana whenua and partners, the Accord became a trusted platform for collaboration and community-led development in Rānui.

Following COVID-19 and the severe weather events of 2023, the collective renewed its focus and strengthened its collaboration through dedicated project management, community-led research and engagement, and new partnerships. Working alongside local whānau, community groups, Te Kawerau ā Maki and the Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Office, the Accord developed Whiti Te Rā—a shared community vision and plan that reflects the aspirations and priorities of the Rānui community.

Whiti Te Rā marked an important milestone in the collective's journey, bringing together community aspirations, evidence and partnerships into a shared direction for the future of Rānui.

In 2026, the Rānui Accord became Whiti Mai Rānui, creating one shared identity for our collective and the work we do alongside our community. Today, Whiti Mai Rānui continues this work by bringing people together, strengthening community connections, and supporting community-led development across Rānui.
